Epistemic foundation of stable model semantics

چکیده
Stable model semantics has become a very popular approach for the management of negation in logic programming. This approach relies mainly on the closed world assumption to complete the available knowledge and its formulation has its basis in the so-called Gelfond-Lifschitz transformation. The primary goal of this work is to present an alternative and epistemicbased characterization of stable model semantics, to the Gelfond-Lifschitz transformation. In particular, we show that stable model semantics can be defined entirely as an extension of the Kripke-Kleene semantics. Indeed, we show that the closed world assumption can be seen as an additional source of ‘falsehood’ to be added cumulatively to the Kripke-Kleene semantics. Our approach is purely algebraic and can abstract from the particular formalism of choice as it is based on monotone operators (under the knowledge order) over bilattices only.

Epistemic Foundation of the Stable Model Semantics
The stable model semantics has become a dominating approach for the management of negation in logic programming. It relies mainly on the closed world assumption to complete the available knowledge and its formulation has its founding root in the so-called Gelfond-Lifschitz transform. The primary goal of this work is to present an alternative and epistemic based characterization of the stable mo...
متن کاملParacoherent Answer Set Programming
We study the problem of reasoning from incoherent answer set programs, i.e., from logic programs that do not have an answer set due to cyclic dependencies of an atom from its default negation. As a starting point we consider so-called semi-stable models which have been developed for this purpose building on a program transformation, called epistemic transformation. We give a model-theoretic cha...
متن کاملNested Epistemic Logic Programs
Nested logic programs and epistemic logic programs are two important extensions of answer set programming. However, the relationship between these two formalisms is rarely explored. In this paper we first introduce the epistemic HT-logic, and then propose a more general extension of logic programs called nested epistemic logic programs. The semantics of this extension named equilibrium views is...
متن کاملA Succinct Language for Dynamic Epistemic Logic
Dynamic epistemic logic (DEL) is an extension of modal multi-agent epistemic logic with dynamic operators. We propose a succinct version of DEL where Kripke models and event models are described succinctly. Our proposal relies on Dynamic logic of propositional assignments (DLPA): epistemic relations are described with so-called accessibility programs written in DLPA. We give examples of models ...
متن کاملStable Models in Generalized Possibilistic Logic
Possibilistic logic is a well-known logic for reasoning under uncertainty, which is based on the idea that the epistemic state of an agent can be modeled by assigning to each possible world a degree of possibility, taken from a totally ordered, but essentially qualitative scale. Recently, a generalization has been proposed that extends possibilistic logic to a meta-epistemic logic, endowing it ...
